HBA-DC Member Spotlight: Annette Soberats

Annette Soberats is an attorney with the Division of Advertising Practices at the Federal Trade Commission. She investigates and litigates cases in federal and administrative courts involving the advertising of dietary supplements, foods, and devices. She also regularly provides guidance to the hospitality industry on issues related to pricing. Annette has received a Director’s Award and a Commission Award recognizing her outstanding contributions to the FTC, including serving on a committee that seeks to enhance the FTC’s work to fight fraud affecting Latinos, African-Americans, Asians, lower-income communities, and older adults.

Last year, Annette and a colleague represented a Spanish-speaking client in a consumer protection case assigned through the DC Bar Pro Bono Center’s Advocacy and Justice Clinic. Their client had a long-standing dispute with his neighbors regarding damages to his home caused by construction activity in the neighbors’ home. After much back-and- forth – and several trips to DCRA and various inspections – Annette and her colleague reached a successful settlement with the neighbors’ contractor to repair all damage caused to their client’s home. Prior to joining the FTC, Annette served as a law clerk in the District of Columbia Superior Court. She received her law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and received a B.A. in Economics and International Relations, summa cum laude, from Florida International University. She currently serves as a member of HBA-DC’s Endorsements Committee.

The HBA-DC salutes Ms. Soberats's accomplishments in this Member Spotlight.  For information on nominating a member for the HBA-DC Member Spotlight, click here.
