Dear @@first_name@@,

This week the HBA-DC hosts two events that represent everything that our organization represents, An Evening with Kim Rivera and the La Familia Barbecue.  Fostering diversity in the workplace can be a challenge. As General Counsel at HP, Inc., Kim has implemented an array of successful diversity initiatives.  On account of her efforts, HP has been recognized as a top employer for African Americans,  Latinos, and women.  Diversity, as Kim has demonstrated through her leadership, can be a win for all.

This weekend we celebrate a long tradition of grilling and enjoying the company of good friends. Register for the BBQ and come out for a good time.  Drinks and food will be provided.

Atentamente,

Ben Hernandez-Stern

President

APABA PRESENTS: UNCONSCIOUS BIASES

On Thursday 22, 2017, at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP (901 New York Avenue, NW), APABA-DC is hosting a workshop that will cover how to identify and address unconscious biases.  Unconscious biases are created and reinforced by our experiences and our environments. Our minds are constantly processing information from our surroundings, often unconsciously. When we lack information or are moving quickly, our unconscious biases fill in the gaps, influencing our decisions and interactions, including with coworkers.  By learning about how unconscious biases affect people's perceptions, interactions, and decisions, we can work to overcome them. The workshop will be presented by Avery J. Bakeley and Julie S. Lu, attorneys in the Federal Government with extensive experience in EEO and Diversity. Please Note: The views expressed in this training do not necessarily represent the views of the Federal agency where they work or the United States.

California CLE pending approval (seeking 1.5 hours for Recognition and Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession and Society). Please RSVP to education@apaba-dc.org. Food and refreshments will be provided.
