HBA-DC Testifies at DC Council Hearing on DREAM ACT Resolution
Wednesday, November 21, 2012
On November 13, 2012, HBA-DC testified in support of PR19-1002, a
Sense of the Council resolution calling on Congress to pass the federal
DREAM Act. The testimony followed efforts this summer during which
HBA-DC visited the DC Council and urged passage of a model resolution in
support of the DREAM Act as part of an HNBA national project. The
Council introduced the resolution this fall.
Board Member Fernando
Rivero testified on behalf of HBA-DC at the public hearing. Others who
testified included community organizations, such as AYUDA,
representatives from the Office of Latino Affairs, the Office on Asian
and Pacific Islander Affairs, and the Office on African Affairs, and
several DREAMers themselves. Passage of the resolution is expected in
December. The District of Columbia would then be the first jurisdiction
to pass the HNBA model resolution.
