HBA-DC Support Judges at DC Bar Judicial Reception

May 3, 2011, HBA-DC members attended the 2011 D.C. Bar Judicial
Reception at The Occidental Restaurant in The Willard Hotel. This annual
event honors all judges in the local and federal D.C. courts, but gives
special recognition to judges who have retired or taken senior status
in the past year.
HBA-DC members, including Brian Castro, Holli Feichko,
Fernando Rivero, Juan Sempertegui, and Dominic Vorv, were present to
salute judges for their long service. The Honorable Ricardo M. Urbina of
the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, longtime HBA-DC
member and the first Hispanic on the D.C. federal bench, was honored, as
well as the Honorable Inez Smith Reid of the District Court of Columbia
Court of Appeals.
From the Superior Court of the District of Columbia,
Associate Judges John H. Bayly, Jr., Kaye K. Christian, Stephanie
Duncan-Peters, Brook Hedge, Judith E. Retchin, and Odessa F. Vincent
Also in attendance were HBA-DC judicial members and
Associate Judges Laura Cordero and Hiram Puig-Lugo of the D.C. Superior
Court. The D.C. Bar Foundation also presented its 2011 Jerrold Scoutt
Prize to Ms. Erin M. Loubier, senior managing attorney and director of
public benefits of the Whitman-Walker Clinic’s Legal Services Program.
The prize, named in honor of Jerrold Scoutt, Jr., a founding partner of
Zuckert, Scoutt & Rasenberger LLP, is awarded annually to an
attorney who has worked a significant portion of her career at a
nonprofit organization that provides legal services to disadvantaged
D.C. residents, demonstrated compassionate concern for her clients, and
exhibited a high degree of skill on her clients’ behalf.
