HBA-DC Announces Equal Justice Awards Recipients

The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia (HBA-DC) will hold its 34th Annual Equal Justice Awards Reception on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Two hundred and fifty of the most influential Hispanic attorneys and policy makers from the Washington Metropolitan area are expected to attend the event, which will feature the presentation of HBA-DC's Equal Justice Awards.
The 2011 Judge Ricardo M. Urbina Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to D.C. Superior Court Judge Hiram Puig-Lugo. The 2011 Hugh A. Johnson, Jr., Memorial Awards will be presented to Rosanne Avilés, Supervising Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia and to Liberty's Promise, a non-profit organization that supports young, D.C. area immigrants in need while encouraging them to be active and conscientious citizens. The 2011 Rising Star Award will be presented to M. Lucero Ortiz, Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, at the U.S. Department of Labor. These prestigious awards recognize individuals and an organization that have made outstanding contributions to the Hispanic community in the areas of equality, fairness and social justice and who have an unwavering commitment and achievement in public service. "We are delighted to honor this year's Equal Justice Award recipients. They contribute to their communities day in and day out, driven by their passion for service in the name of justice.
