HBA-DC EQUAL JUSTICE AWARDS A SUCCESS

On Thursday, November 10, 2011, HBA-DC held the 34th Annual Equal Justice Awards Ceremony & Reception at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. With over 300 people in attendance, it was the largest Equal Justice event to date. Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez delivered keynote remarks.

HBA-DC presented the Judge Ricardo M. Urbina Lifetime Achievement Award to the Honorable Hiram Puig-Lugo of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia; the Hugh A. Johnson, Jr., Memorial Awards to Rosanne Aviles, Senior Staff Attorney at the Legal Aid Society, and to Liberty’s Promise, a non-profit organization that assists young, D.C. area immigrants in need, while encouraging them to be active and conscientious citizens; and the Rising Star Award was presented to M. Lucero Ortiz, Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Labor. The event was covered in Bisnow and the Blog of the Legal Times.
