Resolution 113 adopted the ABA Standards for Language Access in Courts, and urges federal and state legislative and executive branches to provide adequate funding to courts to fully implement language access services. http://www.abanow.org/2012/02/state-and-local-bar-regulation-law-enforcement-access-to-third-party-records-and-standards-for-language-access-adopted-as-aba-policy/
In June 2011, HBA-DC submitted a letter supporting the adoption. Chief Judge Eric Washington, as President of the Conference of Chief Justices and on behalf of NCSC and COSCA, endorsed the Standards. His remarks are at: http://www.ncsc.org/Information-and-Resources/Budget-Resource-Center/Economic-impact/ABA-Task-Force-Midyear-Address-Washington.aspx.
The Standards for Language Access can be found at http://www.americanbar.org/groups/legal_aid_indigent_defendants/initiatives/language_access.html
HBA-DC's very own Judge Vanessa Ruiz played an instrumental role in the effort. Her role was featured in the Blog of the Legal Times. http://legaltimes.typepad.com/blt/2012/02/dc-judge-spearheads-aba-adoption-of-language-access-standards.html
