Liberty's Promise Superior Court Visit Hosted by HBA-DC Judicial Council Members

Tuesday, April 24, 2012
Liberty's Promise, a non-profit group that engages area youth, gathered more than 100 participants of its after-school program to visit the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on March 30, 2012. The visit was hosted by HBA-DC Judicial Council members Judge Laura Cordero, Judge Marisa Demeo and representative Kenia Seoane-Lopez. Liberty's Promise participants observed live court cases; visited Judge Marisa Demeo and her staff in her courtroom (and quickly flocked to take pictures with her!); participated in a mock jury led by Assistant United States Attorney John Truong and Public Defender Gabriel Diaz; and finally, they met members of the U.S. Marshal's Service, including Deputy U.S. Marshal Willard King, who was recently featured in the Washington Post. According to Liberty's Promise, the trip was one of the best educational experiences ever for the young participants, and the variety of careers available in the court system amazed the youth.

Liberty's Promise expressed its gratitude to Judge Cordero, Judge Demeo and Kenia Seoane Lopez for affording the young men and women such a wonderful experience.
