Thursday, June 28th, HBA-DC hosted a Happy Hour featuring CARECEN, the
latest in a series of networking Happy Hours that feature a legal
service provider in the Washington, D.C. area. The event took place at
the rooftop of Local 16 in the historic U Street area of Washington,
D.C. Members enjoyed networking with colleagues over Happy Hour prices
and appetizers. Over $300 were raised for CARECEN, a local non-profit
organization that provides direct services in the areas of immigration,
housing, citizenship and civic participation, and community support for
the Latino community. Andrea Rodriguez, CARECEN’s Director of Legal
Services, spoke on behalf of CARECEN, describing opportunities to get
involved with the organization in pro bono activities such as assisting
with Deferred Action applications for eligible young people staring in
mid-August. HBA-DC President Lyzka DeLaCruz urgedmembers to volunteer.
On behalf of the event co-sponsors, Juan Sempertegui, Region V
President for the Hispanic National Bar Association, and Samuel
Urueta, Adviser to the Secretary General for the Inter-American Bar
