HBA-DC
participated in today's launch of the HNBA Dream Resolution Campaign.
The HNBA unveiled a new project to get model resolutions passed in state
legislatures that encourage Congress to pass the DREAM Act. HBA-DC
President Lyzka P. DeLaCruz, Board Member Fernando Rivero, Legislative
Chair Eissa Villasenor, and Member Karl Tetzlaff, accompanied by
DREAMers, visited the offices of the 12 Councilmember of the Council of
the District of Columbia on July 9th. The morning was spent meeting
with Councilmembers, their staffs, and sharing information about the
model DREAM Act resolution. Response was overwhelmingly supportive.
HBA-DC expects that the Council will pass the HNBA model resolution in
the near future. This legislative effort caps more than a year of
HBA-DC's participation, through its Legislative & Policy Issues
Committee, in the research and development of the resolution. More
information about the HNBA model resolution project can be obtained at
the HNBA's DREAM Act page: http://www.hnba.com/dream/.
