HBA-DC Wins HNBA Affiliate of the Year Award

HBA-DC TO RECEIVE HNBA AFFILIATE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Two HBA-DC Members to Receive Honors 


  

(Washington, DC – August 21, 2012) – The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia (HBA-DC) has been selected for the Affiliate of the Year Award by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). HBA-DC President Lyzka P. DeLaCruz will accept the award at this year’s HNBA Annual Convention, scheduled for August 22-25, 2012 in Seattle, Washington. 

HBA-DC President Lyzka DeLaCruz stated, "HBA-DC is proud of this recognition, which would be impossible without its many committed members. With over 400 members and 10 standing committees consisting of over 60 active committee members, HBA-DC has been at the forefront in our nation’s capital in providing networking, professional development and public service opportunities for Latino lawyers and in advocating for the rights of the Latino community. Congratulations to the entire HBA-DC community!”

 

HBA-DC is also pleased to announce that two members also will receive honors. HBA-DC Vice President for Membership Juan M. Sempertegui was selected as the recipient of the HNBA’s Region President of the Year Award, in recognition of his work as the HNBA Region V President and for Region V’s contributions to the Hispanic legal community and Latinos generally. Region V has been very active this year with a team of deputy presidents under Mr. Sempertegui’s leadership. Region V has also collaborated with HBA-DC by cosponsoring several events. 


HBA-DC Past President Marianela Peralta was selected to receive HNBA’s Latina Lawyer of the Year Award, in recognition of her extraordinary achievements and contributions to the Hispanic legal community and Latinos generally. HBA-DC submitted letters in support of Mr. Sempertegui’s and Ms. Peralta’s nominations.
