HBA-DC Member Spotlight:Vivianette Velazquez

Vivianette Velazquez is an Associate at Battino & Sokolow, PLLC, a boutique litigation firm specializing in landlord tenant and real estate matters.  Ms. Velazquez represents developers, property management companies, landlords, tenants, family-owned businesses, investors, and individuals in complex commercial real estate transactions, contract negotiations, disputes, and financing matters. Prior to working at Battino & Sokolow, PLLC, Ms. Velazquez worked at Legal Services of Greater Miami representing nonprofits promoting affordable housing and economic development in Miami. She then subsequently completed a two-year clerkship in the DC Superior Court with the Honorable Laura A. Cordero. As a law clerk, Ms. Velazquez worked on civil litigation matters, petitions for civil protection orders, and domestic violence misdemeanor cases.  


Ms. Velazquez received her B.A., with honors, from the University of Florida, and wrote her thesis on La Perla, a historical neighborhood in Puerto Rico. Learning how property rights impact communities is what motivated Ms. Velazquez to specialize in real estate disputes. Ms. Velazquez received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law (WCL). During law school, she was an Articles Editor for the Business Law Review, a participant in the Equal Justice Foundation Fellowship Program, and a Contract's Dean’s Fellow. Additionally, Ms. Velazquez was a founding board member of ADVANCE, a mentoring program dedicated to first generation law students.


Ms. Velazquez is currently Co-Chair of the Latino/a Alumni Association of WCL and Co-Chair of HBA-DC's Ad-Hoc Professional Conduct Policy Committee.
