HBA-DC Urges DC Council to Pass Legal Permanent Resident Voting Rights Bill

Thursday, October 1, 2015
The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia sent a letter in support of DC Bill 21-08, "The Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2015." The Bill amends the DC Election Code of 1955, adding new definitions for "local elections" and "permanent resident" to provide local voting rights to DC's Legal Permanent Residents who are not yet citizens. The Bill was introduced in January and received a hearing in July. It awaits a vote by the Council of the District of Columbia. We encourage our members to reach out to DC Councilmembers to encourage them to enact the legislation. A copy of the letter can be found here.
