HBA-DC Provides Highest Endorsement to Judge Puig-Lugo for Chief Judge Position

Thursday, June 9, 2016

HBA-DC has given its highest endorsement to the Honorable Hiram E. Puig-Lugo to serve as Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (DC Superior Court). Judge Puig-Lugo is Associate Judge in DC Superior Court, where he serves as Presiding Judge of the Family Court. Family Court is one of the most difficult divisions to manage and it has the largest combined number of full-time Associate and Magistrate Judges. In its endorsement letter, HBA-DC states: “Based on Judge Puig-Lugo’s judicial experience, leadership skills, and unparalleled commitment to public service, we believe that he would be a strong, decisive and inclusive Chief Judge who will serve the Superior Court with honor and distinction.” You can read the HBA-DC endorsement letter here.

There are four other candidates for the Chief Judge position.  The DC Judicial Nomination Commission is responsible for designating the Chief Judge.  The Commission is seeking comments from the bench, bar, and public regarding all candidates for the Chief Judge position no later than June 9, 2016.  HBA-DC members who can attest to Judge Puig-Lugo’s qualifications, leadership, temperament and/or commitment to public service are encouraged to submit comments with the Commission.  Comments may be submitted by online survey here.
