CBAC Advocates for DACA and Other Issues on Capitol Hill

On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, leaders of the Coalition of Bar Associations of Color (CBAC) visited with Members of Congress to advocate on issues important to communities of color, including Hispanic attorneys. The membership of CBAC consists of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, and the National Native American Bar Association.


CBAC leadership rotates annually among its members. This year, HNBA led organized the advocacy effort that saw five teams of advocates visit offices in both the Senate and the House to promote the positions CBAC took on several legislative priorities reflected in resolutions.


As part of the legislative package, HNBA authored five resolutions on: (1) DACA, (2) Unaccompanied minors seeking asylum, (3) criminal justice reform, (4) judicial diversity, and (5) relief for Puerto Rico. HNBA Vice President for External Affairs (and HBA-DC member) Mariana Bravo and HNBA Region V President (and HBA-DC Past President) Fernando Rivero participated in the CBAC advocacy.
