On July 21, 2020, the HBA-DC held its annual Summer Law Student Virtual Reception and Résumé Workshop. Law students took part in a special résumé review workshop where practicing attorneys from the public and private sectors reviewed and critiqued their résumés. After the workshop, a panel of experienced HBA-DC attorneys discussed and answered questions about various professional development issues, including tips on how to network and how to use mentoring relationships effectively. The panel consisted of DC Superior Court Magistrate Judge Raquel Trabal, José E. Arvelo, Special Counsel at Covington, Jane Garrido, Senior Attorney for International Affairs and USERRA at U.S. Dept. of Labor, Ben Hernandez-Stern, Counsel for the U.S. House Committee of the Judiciary, Natasha Quiroga, PREP Director and Senior Counsel at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and HBA-DC President-Elect, Adam Acosta, Associate at White & Case, acted as moderator. The discussions continued in networking break-out rooms following the panel. HBA-DC is grateful to all of the panelists, résumé review volunteers, and the HBA-DC Student Affairs Committee, particularly Sandra Bellew, Chris Pascual, Paulina Vera and Jackie Martinez Resly, for putting on such a great event.
