Black Lives Matters Task Force

On July 7, 2020, the HBA-DC Board unanimously voted to create a Black Lives Matter Task Force, which will work to embody HBA-DC's sustained commitment to supporting our Black friends, family, colleagues, and countrymen. The Task Force will coordinate HBA-DC's existing work to advance the goal of racial justice, and add new initiatives to support the Black Lives Matter movement. All HBA-DC members are invited to participate in the Task Force and to help shape its agenda, which will include:

  • Continued policy advocacy for racial justice.
  • Identifying and participating in Black Lives Matter volunteering opportunities.
  • Continuing dialogue, via distribution and publication of racial justice educational materials on HBA-DC's website, on racial justice.
  • Fundraising and donation support for non-profit groups.
  • Collaboration and partnership with other bar associations' racial justice efforts.

Now more than ever, it is imperative to HBA-DC to follow the words of the late Congressman John Lewis: "When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something."

The BLM Task Force Coordinators are:

  • Mikael Rojas,
  • Ana Jara,
  • Victoria Hernandez,
  • Jason Ortega, and
  • Maritza Perez.

If you are interested in participating with or serving on the Task Force, please reach out directly to Mikael (rojasm07@gmail.com) and Ana (Ana.Jara@wbd-us.com).
