Sandra Chavez Bellew
Sandra Chavez Bellew is an Assistant Chief Counsel at the Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). She joined TTB’s Office of the Chief Counsel in March 2003. Since December 2010, her responsibilities have included providing legal advice to TTB and Treasury officials regarding labeling and advertising, international trade, and tax and regulatory matters involving alcohol beverages, as well as legal advice involving TTB's authority with respect to tobacco.  She also provides technical advice on alcohol law issues to Office of the U.S. Trade Representative officials during international trade negotiations.  Sandra has served within TTB's Office of the Chief Counsel as Senior Counsel (General Law and Ethics), and as Senior Counsel (International). Previously, Sandra worked for six years in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel (Enforcement) at Treasury, with an emphasis on alcohol and tobacco, customs, and regulatory matters.  During her tenure at Treasury she was detailed as the Acting Special Assistant for General Counsel Edward Knight and for General Counsel Neal Wolin.  

Prior to her experiences at Treasury, Ms. Bellew worked as an associate at a Washington law firm for three years, specializing in customs and antidumping matters. Sandra received her A.B., cum laude, from Harvard College and her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was a Note Editor on the Stanford Law Review.  She is a member of the Maryland State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar.  Sandra is currently serving as Co-Chair of the HBA-DC Student Affairs Committee, and participated as an HBA-DC representative to the 2015 Robert E. Wone Judicial Clerkship and Internship Conference coordinating committee.
