Erik Burgos

 

Erik has more than fifteen years of experience with complex transaction tax planning, structuring, due diligence, and post acquisition state and local tax planning to enhance the tax effectiveness of acquired businesses.

 

Presently, Erik is a state tax attorney at General Dynamics' corporate office and is responsible for managing the company-wide global state, local & miscellaneous tax issues as well as developing and implementing company-wide tax policy and coordinating tax planning and legal advice regarding state, local and miscellaneous income and non-income taxes matters.

 

Prior to joining General Dynamics Erik was a principal at SC&H Group, and oversaw the multistate tax practice at SC&H's Virginia office and lead the firm's real estate state income tax service line.

 

Prior to joining SC&H, Erik was a Senior Tax Manager at Ernst & Young LLP and was responsible with overseeing the state and local mergers and acquisition practices in the MidAtlantic and Southeast Regions. In this role, Erik focused on the state and local tax aspects of mergers and acquisition deals which included: transaction tax planning, structuring, due diligence, and post acquisition state and local tax planning. Erik has worked on more than 600 M&A transactions throughout his career.

 

Erik has a J.D. from Hofstra Law Center and a Master of Tax Law from Georgetown Law Center. He is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Virginia. Additionally, Erik is a Special Professor of Law at Hofstra Law Center and teaches state and local tax.
