Past Presdents: Jaime Areizaga-Soto (2013)

Jaime Areizaga-Soto is the Deputy Director for Hispanic Affairs at the Democratic National Committee. He is also a U.S. Army JAG Lieutenant Colonel and serves as the Army Staff Judge Advocate and Chief of Criminal Justice of the District of Columbia National Guard. In 2010 Jaime was appointed by the Obama Administration as Senior Attorney Adviser in the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He resigned in 2011 to be a candidate for the Virginia State Senate.

After graduating from Stanford Law School, he practiced cross border infrastructure finance for over ten years with large law firms, including Clifford Chance LLP (Brazil) and Hogan & Hartson LLP. In 2007, he was selected as a White House Fellow and assigned to the Department of the Treasury. Jaime grew up in Puerto Rico, graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, holds a Masters in Latin American Studies from Stanford University, lives in Arlington, VA, and is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and French. He is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and the Virginia Hispanic Bar Association.
